City Council Notice of Public Hearing
The San Marino City Council is holding a public hearing to consider increases to the Solid Waste Service Rates to fund the costs for collection and handling of trash, recycling, and organic waste services. The proposed rates are based on the City's new Solid Waste Services Agreement with Valley Vista Services, which was the result of a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) process. The rate adjustments will address inflationary factors, changes in landfill disposal, recycling sorting and marketing charges, organics processing charges, and the weight of trash, recyclables, and organics generated. The new rates are designed to comply with State laws (SB 1383) requiring increased diversion of waste from landfills.

City of San Marino Town Hall
The City Council approved a new 10-year exclusive contract with Valley Vista Services for solid waste and recycling services. All residents should complete a short service form. Waste and recycling services will continue with no changes to the current collection day. VVS will continue to provide backyard service for residential waste collection. VVS will replace estate bin containers during the transition. The presentation also covered the proposed sewer rates, highlighting that the majority of the system is over 50 years old, with some pipes up to 100 years old. The city currently does not have a sewer charge, but this model is not sustainable. A wastewater rate study was conducted to fund operations and maintenance and alleviate the projected deficit pressures on the general fund. The presentation included financial plans and charge scenarios, with a comparison of monthly sewer charges and sewer reserves.
